Job description

“Please note that the University is obligated, in terms of recent amendments to the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act 2021 (Act 13 of 2021), to assess all prospective employees (including applicants) against the National Register for Sex Offenders (NRSO). The outcome of such an assessment may have an impact upon possible employment with the University.

Responsibilities:
 
  • Support and Maintenance
    • Perform minor repairs and routine cleaning of audio and video equipment.
    • Facilitate and operate audio and video equipment for classes, events and seminars
    • Diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve AV system problems in lecture venues.
    • Perform and facilitate minor AV installations in lecture venues
    • Ensure reliable and functional AV systems and equipment in all venues
  • Conduct General Administration
    • Ensure the safekeeping of AV equipment in venues
    • Maintain an asset register in the respective lecture venues on campus
    • Perform any task as delegated within the AVS sub-unit
  • Updating and Using Relevant Knowledge
    • Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job.
    • Attending tradeshows and AV industry training

Minimum requirements

  • Matric/Grade 12
  • Audio Visual Design/Installation certificate(s), preferably Inform Comm AV Essential, AVIXA AV Essentials, SACIA, Extron, Crestron, Kramer certifications
  • Any other AV systems maintenance qualification will be considered
  • At least two years of experience in AV Support in the Higher Education environment
  • At least two years of experience in a similar environment
  • Valid Driver’s license

  • Ability to supervise people and issue instructions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision using tried and tested AV design, installation, fault finding and repair techniques.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and efficient to people on various levels.
  • Must be physically able to handle equipment and work on ladders and on heights above 2 meters.

  • Electronics Certificate
  • Inform Comm: AV Essential GEN 111-112 (CTS Prep)
  • Crestron: Systems D, Control Systems Programming (Crestron Toolbox)
  • Any other AV systems maintenance qualification will be considered
