Faculty/Dept./Division: Centre for Academic Technologies

The Centre for Academic Technologies (CAT) supports teaching and learning through innovative and advanced technologies. Ensuring the training and support of the use of such technologies for both staff and students is a central part of CAT. CAT consists of staff support (Instructional Design Team), student support (Helpdesk Team), and technical/data support (IT team). Ultimately, we support all staff, students, and support stakeholders on all four of our UJ campuses. The purpose of this role is to develop, support, and maintain bespoke technologies for teaching, learning, and research.

Responsibilities:
 
  • Develop and maintain technology used for teaching, learning, and research (i.e. uLink – UJ’s single sign-on portal, Moodle interfaces, etc.)
  • To manage and maintain third-party tools and software for teaching and learning.
  • Provide guidance and support to the user community.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to develop specifications and make recommendations on using new and emerging technology.
  • Managing technical ad hoc special projects. 

Minimum requirements

  • An Honours degree in a relevant or equivalent field (i.e. Computer/Information Science, Information Systems, or related field of studies).  
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of job-related experience in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with C#.NET, HTML5, JAVASCRIPT, CSS.
  • Experience working with MySQL, MSSQL, or Oracle and good working knowledge of SQL.
  • Proven experience in working with Learning Management Systems.
