The Ali Mazrui Centre for Higher Education Studies (AMCHES) AMCHES is a Pan-African centre for scholarly research inquiry, training and professional development in higher education. Its goals include producing knowledge that contributes to a deeper and more nuanced understanding of strategic issues in higher education through multi-disciplinary and policy-relevant research to build institutional capacity in higher education leadership, management and governance through professional development programmes that are evidence-based and underpinned by high-quality research to promote critical reflection on, and advocacy of, higher education issues through facilitating and providing a platform for dialogue among scholars, institutional leaders and policymakers.
 
AMCHES invites applications for the academic post of Senior Lecturer.
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Contribute significantly to the research profile of the AMCHES by publishing high-quality research outputs, journal articles, and chapters in accredited outlets.
  • Contribute to recruiting and the supervision of postgraduate students at Honours, MA and PHD level.
  • Take on a full teaching load, commensurate with rank, at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • Efficiently and reliably handle administrative duties commensurate with rank.
  • Initiate cutting-edge research projects that align with the Centre's strategic plans.
  • Actively participate in funding applications to support the work of the Centre.
  • Developing networks and partnerships between the centre, academics/researchers and other research centres in the field in the public and private sectors, locally, nationally and internationally.
  • Involvement in seminars, colloquiums and symposiums based on the Centre’s research and aims and present at local and international conferences. 
  • Involvement in developing of postgraduate academic programmes and short learning programmes related to the focus of the Centre
  • Involvement in teaching at mainly postgraduate level.
  • Participation in faculty and institutional committee structures when required.

Minimum requirements

  • Applicable PhD/DEd/DPhil degree
  • Teaching/ research experience at the tertiary level
  • Relevant experience working in the field of higher education research
  • Evidence of research output and accredited publications in the field of higher education research, including articles published in DHET accredited journals, chapters in books, and books in the same field.

  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills
  • Good planning and organisational skills
  • Good interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with colleagues.
