Job description
- Teaching in the field of English/Mathematics and/or Life Skills Education in the Foundation Phase of schooling in the undergraduate and postgraduate teacher education programmes.
- Integrating content on English/Mathematics and/or Life Skills Education in the Foundation Phase with the practicum focus on child development studies.
- Research in English/Mathematics and/or Life Skills Education in the primary school teacher education programme and/or Teaching Methods in the primary school.
- Community engagement in the area of English/Mathematics and/or Life Skills Education in the Foundation Phase and Teaching methodology and practicum.
- Administration of university teaching, research and community engagement in the portfolio of the position.
- Post graduate supervision of students in areas related to the position.
- Support, guide and monitor student experience initiatives.
- Oversee and coordinate the Masters online programme in the department.
Minimum requirements
- A suitable doctoral qualification in Education or a related field
- Has successfully supervised Master's and Doctoral students
- Extensive experience in designing and teaching postgraduate research courses
- Extensive teaching experience in courses related to English/Mathematics and/or Life Skills Education in the Foundation Phase, Teaching methodology and practicum or in teacher education for the primary school
- Consistent research output in accordance with Department of Higher Education research output requirements
- Evidence of a national reputation in the field of English/Mathematics and/or Life Skills Education for the primary school
- A suitable doctoral qualification in Education or a related field
- Teaching experience in courses related to English/Mathematics and/or Life Skills Education in the Foundation Phase, Teaching Methodology and Practicum or in teacher education for the primary school
- Evidence of some postgraduate supervision
- Consistent research output in accordance with Department of Higher Education research output requirements
- Research project management experience
- School research experience
- Qualitative and/or Quantitative research methods
- Sound understanding of the integrated approach of teaching in the Foundation Phase
- Computer Literacy
- Fluent English language use
- Strong interpersonal relationships
- Analytical thinking and coordination skills
- Able to work with teachers in in-service development programmes
