administrative duties, and teach in undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Food Technology.
- Register for a PhD degree in Food Technology or undertake post-doctoral studies.
- Capable of lecturing Food Technology modules, in particular Food Components, Introduction to FoodTechnology, and Food Product Development.
- Prepare and deliver lectures for undergraduate students.
- Supervise postgraduate students.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and productive research and contribute to teaching innovation.
- Be able to develop course material for Food Technology modules required in the Department of Biotechnology and Food Technology.
- Be actively involved in core activities of the Department such as academic administration, research, short-course development, marketing, and community development projects.
Minimum requirements
- A M.Tech or MSc degree (min.70% final mark) in Food Technology or Food Science. The candidate will be required to register for the PhD.
- Candidates must be under the age of 40 years.
- Familiarity with South Africa Food Industry.
- Strong commitment to excellent teaching and research.
- One to two years’ work experience in Food Technology or Food Science.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Excellent written and verbal English communications skills.
- Excellent teaching skills and good interpersonal skills as well as the ability to collaborate with colleagues.
- Strong leadership, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
- Good planning and organisational skills.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with Faculty staff, students, and community members as well as organisational leaders.
- Proven experience in creating campus and community partnerships.
- Collegial and emotionally intelligent.
- Innovative, proactive, and creative.
- Ability to work in a pressurised environment and independently.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills.
- High level of integrity and ethical foundation.
- Enthusiasm and passion for Research and Community Engagement.
- Experience in the integration of ICT in teaching and learning as well as electronic assessment techniques, e.g. Moodle
- Capable of independent thought and able to work as an individual and within a team.
- Registered or studying for a PhD in Food Technology and Food Sciences.
- At least 2 years’ experience of participating in organising and managing undergraduate practical sessions and student assistants or tutors for Food Technology or Food Science students is a strong recommendation.
- A track record for attracting external funding would be an added advantage.
- Demonstrate potential to build own research group.
- Able to teach large groups (± 150)
