Job description

“Please note that the University is obligated, in terms of recent amendments to the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act 2021 (Act 13 of 2021), to assess all prospective employees (including applicants) against the National Register for Sex Offenders (NRSO). The outcome of such an assessment may have an impact upon possible employment with the University.

Management Accounting is a department within the Financial Governance and Control division. The department is mainly responsible for the budgeting process, monthly financial reporting (institutional and commercial entities), utilities financial administration and reporting.
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Assist with financial management of the university’s utilities and commercial entities.
  • Enforce university policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Assist with the preparation of relevant and accurate monthly management accounts as per relevant reporting deadlines.
  • Assist with monitoring monthly actual overhead expenditure against budgets, identify variances and ensure that the necessary follow up action is taken.
  • Assist with business case viability.
  • Assist with the annual budgeting process of the University and Commercial entities.
  • Assist with required internal and external audits and ensure the audit queries are resolved timeously.
  • Assist with Company Secretariat function and commercial entities statutory.
  • Ad Hoc tasks.

Minimum requirements

  • Diploma in accounting/ management accounting/financial management (NQF 6).
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of job-related experience.
  • Strong reconciliation experience.
  • Experience in computerised financial systems.
  • Computer skills (MS Office and other relevant computer packages, in particular).
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Knowledge of financial policies, procedures and guidelines.
 
Recommendations:
 
  • May be required to travel between campuses as and when required.
  • May be required to work outside normal working hours as and when required.
  • Power BI exposure.
