Job description

The Centre for Psychological Services and Career Development (PsyCaD), offers a broad spectrum of psychological and educational services to children, adolescents, students and staff with the aim of enhancing their psychological fitness to manage personal life challenges, increase productivity and to optimize their performance. Services include: Individual, couple, family and group counselling, trauma counselling, psychological and educational assessments, career counselling and development services.

The successful incumbent will be responsible  for providing basic assessment, psychological and career development interventions to clients of PsyCaD towards personal, academic and career success, while adhering to professional, institutional and national legislation, policies and guidelines.

Responsibilities:  
 
  • Provide preventative, developmental and career consulting/counselling services and interventions.
  • Counselling of students with psychosocial challenges
  • Coordination of activities and information resources in the Career Resource Centres, including interactive Web-based support and resources
  • Involvement in the annual Graduate Recruitment Programme
  • Participate in relevant project and programme delivery as required within the PsyCaD context.
  • Assist students with work applications, CV writing, Interviewing Skills, Job search strategies as well as the development and presentation of career education workshops for students, departments and faculties.
  • Provision of career, psycho-educational and psycho-emotional workshops, assessments and guidance
  • Responsible for professional administrative functions.

Minimum requirements

  • An accredited Master’s Degree, and registration with the HPCSA, in one of the following categories:  Counselling or Educational Psychology.
  • Willing to take out personal indemnity insurance.
  
Recommendations:
  • Experience in the coordination and development or career and workshop readiness programmes and services, preferable gained in a diverse Higher Education setting.
  • Experience of and an understanding of the use of web-based career applications for career development and graduate recruitment purpose.
  • Able to learn and utilize the Simplicity Services Management web application effectively as a student and employer to work on a rotational basis between campuses in order to meet student’s needs.
  • Sound career psychology theoretical foundation.
  • Experience in the use of a number of psychotherapeutic modalities.
  • Excellent knowledge base in Psychometry.

  • Ability to deliver career education and information in new and innovative skills.
  • Knowledge of graduate preparedness for the workplace and employment related skills, and the ability to write and develop relate facilitation materials.

  • Skilled in use of psychometric assessment instruments.
  • Proficiency in using PC, Microsoft Office programs, and the internet.
  • A sound understanding of professional and ethical principles and relevant legislation.
