Job description
- Teach, supervise and assess students.
- Prepare study material and be available for consultation.
- Conduct and publish innovative research in top-tier journals. Secure external research funding through grant writing and collaborative projects.
- Mentor and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student research projects, including Honours, Masters, and PhD students.
- Improve and increase personal knowledge of the relevant field of study through research and publications.
- Commit to excellence in productive research and postgraduate supervision.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of the data science curriculum, ensuring it stays aligned with industry trends and academic standards.
- Share in the administration and management of the Centre, e.g. Post Graduate Portfolio.
- Invigilate during University examinations or assessments.
- Ensure that students adhere to the University's Rules and Regulations.
- Participate in official gatherings of the University and committees to which the incumbent has been nominated.
- Participate in official meetings of the Centre, School, and College.
- Do anything reasonably requested by the HoC, the School Director, or the Executive Dean.
- Engage in outreach activities, including participation in academic conferences, workshops, and seminars. Building on partnerships with industry, government, and other academic institutions.
- Participate in University-linked community development projects and/or play the role of a public intellectual, where appropriate.
- Engage industry /organizations.
- Collaborate with other Universities and other research institutions within South Africa
- Collaborate with international Universities and institutions.
Minimum requirements
- Masters (or reading towards a PhD) in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields.
- Registration with a Professional body
- Two (2) years' of university lecturing experience
- Applied data science or data science
- Data analytics
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A commitment to diversity and inclusion within the academic community.
- Lecturing and supervision
- Publish research results in journals or conference proceedings
- Guiding and supporting students and, where applicable, junior staff
- Supervision of postgraduate students
- Academic planning, organizing, and administration
- Experience with data science tools and programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, and machine learning frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience in interdisciplinary research and collaboration
- Knowledge of university policies, procedures, and processes.
