Job Specification
 
Reporting to the Law Clinic Principal, the incumbent must be a dynamic, energetic, flexible and self-motivated person who will provide inter alia, the following services:
 
 
Responsibilities:

  • Legal secretarial services within the Law Clinic environment
  • Keep case files diarised, liaising with courts and other institutions or stakeholders
  • Handling enquiries, (telephonic and in person)
  • Liaising with clients, students, law clinic staff, faculty staff and lecturers
  • Dealing with law clinic administration
  • Maintaining a high level of confidentiality
  • The incumbent must be prepared to be transferred to any other campus of the University at the discretion of the Director: UJ Law Clinic
 
 



Minimum requirements


  • Matric/Grade 12
  • Minimum of three years’ legal secretarial experience
  • Good administration skills,
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Excellent typing skills,
  • An aptitude for figures,
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Outlook
  • Innovative and able to work under pressure and independently
  • Good interpersonal, organisational and communication skills
 
 
Recommendations:
 
  • Secretarial diploma and /or recognised secretarial certificate(s)
  • Paralegal diploma
 
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:
 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with faculty, staff, students, and community members as well as organisational leaders.
  • Innovative, proactive, and creative.
  • Ability to work in a pressurised environment.
