Job description

The Department of Information & Knowledge Management (IKM) has a reputation for excellence in teaching and learning and has an established record in terms of accredited research output in national as well as international peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
 
We are a team of young, self-driven, inspired professionals who take pride in our work, and who strive to keep pushing the boundaries. Knowledge grows exponentially. The Department is actively recruiting for a Associate Professor/Professor to join its team of seasoned academics. Imagine what we can do with you as a Thought Leader in our Department.
 
In addition to lecturing at under- and postgraduate level, the appointee will be expected to conduct and supervise research, take part in community engagement efforts, and be involved in other Departmental/School/College activities on multiple campuses.
 
If you join our Department, your responsibilities will include:
  • Teaching undergraduate and post-graduate students, and learners from our client organisations.
  • Supervising post-graduate students’ research.
  • External examination/assessment of Master’s and Doctoral studies.
  • Conducting your own research within an Information and Knowledge Management research focus area. Furthermore, generate and publish research findings in peer reviewed conference proceedings, accredited peer-reviewed journals as well as in books and book chapters.
  • Fulfil administrative duties as required by the Head of Department.
  • Networking with industry and research institutions.
  • Making a meaningful difference through community service.
  • Participate in Departmental/School/College committee work.

Minimum requirements

To be qualified to apply, you need to have:
  • A Doctoral degree in Information- and/or Knowledge Management specializing in Knowledge Management and/or Competitive Intelligence.
  • A well-developed teaching skillset in Information and Knowledge Management.
  • An established and sustained number of published articles in national and international accredited, peer-reviewed journals and conference papers in peer-reviewed proceedings.
  • Supervised post-graduate (Master’s and Doctoral) student research to completion.
  • The minimum required completed supervisions to date:
    • *Professor: 10 Master’s and 6 Doctoral students.
    • *Associate Professor: 8 Master’s and 2 Doctoral students.
  • Experience in external examination/assessment of Master’s and Doctoral studies. The minimum required completed examination to date:
    • *Professor: 10 Master’s and 4 Doctoral.
    • *Associate Professor: 8 Master’s and 1 Doctoral.
  • Taught at a reputable higher education institution, locally or abroad.
  • Active academic citizenship in IKM (e.g. SCIP, KMSA).
  • Proven record of accomplishment of industry experience.
  • Excellent teaching skills and knowledgeable in the Knowledge Management with an emphasis on Knowledge Management and Competitive Intelligence.
  • Evidence of teaching and learning excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • A proven research track record in reputable journals and conference proceedings.
  • Your minimum h-Index should be:
    • *Professor: 10
    • *Associate Professor: 8
  • Your minimum citations should be:
    • *Professor > 500
    • *Associate Professor > 300
  • Your minimum number of published Peer Reviewed accredited Articles:
    • *Professor: 35
    • *Associate Professor: 20
  • Your minimum number of published Peer Reviewed accredited Conference Papers:
    • *Professor: 35
    • *Associate Professor: 20
  • Your minimum NRF Rating:
    • *Professor: C2
  • For appointment as Professor: recognition as an established discipline-based leader/expert.

Competencies and behavioral attributes:
 
  • An excellent ability to speak and write in English.
  • Excellence in teaching and curricular design.
  • Computer literate (MS Office, Blackboard, etc.).
  • Well-developed quantitative/qualitative research methodology skills.
  • Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, and a proven record of academic administration.
  • Strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Analytical thinking.
  • Substantial track record of supervising post-graduate student research.
  • Substantial track record of publishing research findings.
  • Well-developed teaching and learning ability (portfolio).
 
Recommendations:
 
  • NRF rating (or rating based on equivalent peer review mechanism) as an established researcher (C1 or C2 or higher) is strongly recommended.
  • Knowledge of the online learning environment.
  • Experience in managing research projects.
  • Proven track record of generating revenue.
  • A good/successful research fundraising track record.
  • Evidence of sourcing external research funding.
  • Evidence of national/international reputation as an established and distinguished researcher/creative practitioner, including an appropriately high number of peer citations.
  • Demonstration of high-level and constant engagement in pedagogical activities within and beyond the classroom, in respect of teaching materials, assessment practices, integrated learning skills and learning.
  • Evidence of discipline-related external assessment and recognition as a leading expert in discipline-related pedagogy.
