Job Description:

Senior Lectureship in English literature and Academic literacy. This position is at the University of Johannesburg’s highly ranked English Department on Kingsway Boulevard. The successful candidate will work on both the English literature and academic literacy streams within the department and be able to move between these areas seamlessly. This position offers an opportunity to be part of a large dynamic team who excel at teaching and research on a global scale.

Responsibilities: 
 
  • Teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Conduct and publish research in accredited publications
  • Curriculum development
  • Supervise at postgraduate level
  • Course administration

Minimum requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in English literature or language studies or applied linguistics
  • 5 years higher education teaching experience
  • Minimum of 3 accredited publications
  • Previous course administration experience at AP level
 
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to teach across the curriculum in both English Literary Studies and courses on writing skills development
  • Expertise in any type of literature in English as well as language acquisition skills
  • Good planning and administration skills
  • Excellent people skills
 
 Recommendations:
 
  • The ability to teach English as a second language is a bonus.
  • May be required to travel between campuses
  • 5 Years of experience in a Higher Education environment
  • Must take part in departmental and faculty events, committees, and meetings
  • NRF rating at AP level.
