Job Description:

The Faculty of Education invites applications for the academic post of Lecturer in the Department of Educational Psychology (DEP). The focus of this post is the education and training within pre-service and in-service teacher programmes in the fields of Education Studies, Life Orientation, Inclusive Education, Neurodevelopmental Leaming Needs, Culture and Natural Environment as well as Remedial Education. The appointee will also be involved in the education and training of specialists on post graduate levels in the fields of inclusive education, and educational psychology. It is expected that the appointee will work closely with the newly established Centre for Neurodiversity@ UJ that is affiliated to DEP.

Responsibilities:

  • Involvement in teaching and research in Educational Psychology as outlined above (contact, blended and online) at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Playing a leading role in online teaching innovation.
  • Supervision of student research at Honours, Master's and Doctoral level.
  • Clinical supervision of the Honours and Masters Educational Psychology students.
  • Involvement in national and international research projects.
  • Procurement of funding for research.
  • Involvement in core activities of the Department such as academic administration, research, short-course development, marketing, and community projects.
 

Minimum requirements

  • An appropriate Masters degree in Educational Psychology. The candidate will be required to undertake a doctoral qualification (NQF 10) within a five (5) year period after being appointed to the lecturer position.
  • Registered as an Educational Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa
  • Practical professional work experience with inclusive education, psycho-educational assessment, career assessments, and educational psychological therapeutic interventions.
  • At least 5 years teaching experience at school level and/or any related field in teacher education at the tertiary level
  • Accredited research output in the fields of Educational Psychology and/or Inclusive Education
  • A track record of exemplary teaching (online teaching recommended)
  • A research footprint (presenting in local conferences/research forums)

  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills.
  • Good planning and organisational skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with colleagues.
  • Well-developed scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • Adept at teaching and development of materials for professional practice and online education.

Recommendations:

  • A defined research trajectory in Educational Psychology (or related fields) that has resulted in good quality peer-reviewed publications in accredited journals
  • Collaboration with leading scholars in Inclusive Education and Educational Psychology
  • Teaching experience at school level and/or in the teacher education field at the tertiary level
  • PhD/D.Ed degree in Educational Psychology
