Job description

The Department of English seeks to appoint a permanent member of academic staff at Associate Professor level. The suitable candidate should have a minimum of 5 years teaching, research and postgraduate supervision experience and a strong publication record
Responsibilities:  
 
  • Teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Research and supervision
  • Administration of undergraduate and postgraduate modules

Minimum requirements

  • Doctorate in English Literary Studies
  • A strong research and publication track record
  • 5 years higher education teaching experience
  • Experience in course administration
 
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

  • An ability to teach on a wide range of English literary contexts, i.e., South African, African and metropolitan, and areas, i.e., gender, modern, postmodern, colonial and postcolonial literatures
  • An ability to work as part of a team
 
 Recommendations:
 
  • NRF Rating
  • A willingness to take on leadership roles in the department
