Job Description:
 
The successful incumbent will teach, conduct research and, where appropriate, interact with the community in order to work towards the mission of the University of Johannesburg.
 
Responsibilities:
 

The incumbent will be expected to:

  • Have strong technical knowledge of the fields of IFRS Accounting and governance knowledge.
  • Lecture Accounting at an undergraduate/postgraduate level.
  • Set tests, assignments, and examination papers.
  • Encourage students' personal development through consultation and tutorials.
  • Invigilate tests and examinations.
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings.
  • Contribute to general administration of the department and the college.
  • Attend and speak at conferences and seminars.
  • Write research proposals and conduct research in order to produce at least one accredited research output per year.
  • Be involved with professional, national, and international bodies/boards that are related to his/her discipline.
  • Participate in community engagement.
  • Be able to conduct and publish high-quality research.
  • Strategic involvement in/on local community & networks / Chambers of commerce, agencies and other government spheres

Minimum requirements

  • A Chartered Accountant - CA (SA) or Chartered Management Accountant (CMA) with a school/discipline-specific Honour's degree or Post Graduate Degree/Diploma in Accountancy (PGDA) (NQF 8 level).
  • Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office package. This includes Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Knowledge of Accounting Software packages.

Recommendations:
 
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a relevant Doctorate or master’s degree in the commerce field.
  • Practical experience in the relevant subject disciplines.
  • Experience with regards to 4IR and its impact on commerce.
  • Previous lecturing experience in the relevant subject disciplines. Willingness to conduct research.
  • Research experience in relevant subject disciplines.
  • Teaching experience in relevant subject disciplines.
  • An excellent record of relevant academic publications.
  • Experience in supervising postgraduate students
Working conditions:
  • May be required to travel between campuses
