Job description
“Please note that the University is obligated, in terms of recent amendments to the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act 2021 (Act 13 of 2021), to assess all prospective employees (including applicants) against the National Register for Sex Offenders (NRSO). The outcome of such an assessment may have an impact upon possible employment with the University.
Teaching
- Teach and facilitate learning in social work across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, contributing to students’ academic, professional, and practice development.
Research
- Provide postgraduate supervision and contribute to the development and publication of high-quality, accredited research outputs.
Leadership and Administration
- Contribute to departmental administration and assume leadership responsibilities that support the effective functioning and strategic development of the department.
Community Engagement
- Drive community engagement and outreach initiatives that apply social work skills to benefit society.
Minimum requirements
- PhD in Social Work;
- Registered with South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP);
- Five (5) years' teaching experience at a tertiary institution;
- Evidence of peer reviewed publications or DHET accredited publication units;
- Conference papers delivered at national or international conferences;
- Evidence of postgraduate supervision at Masters and Doctoral level;
- Relevant academic administration;
- Eligible for NRF rating.
- Curriculum development, lesson planning, assessment, facilitation and innovative teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Ability to work under pressure
- Courteous, professional, firm manner
- Use of LMS platforms, online teaching tools, digital research databases and emerging technologies
- Developing short courses, professional training, CPD initiatives and external partnerships.
- Understanding social welfare policy, legislation, professional standards and regulatory frameworks relevant to social work.
- Experience lecturing undergraduates.
- Clinical social work background.
- Experience in curriculum development.
- Familiarity with blended learning techniques.
- Experience in compiling study guides in alignment with norms and standards of CHE and SACSSP.
- Experience in media engagement and writing opinion articles on matters relevant to your discipline.
- Previous administrative and leadership experience, an NRF rating, publication on decolonisation, scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), the 4IR, and the sustainable development goals (SDGs) through a social work lens are added advantages.
