Job description

The Faculty of Engineering & Built Environments prides itself in its vibrant, dynamic and diverse engineering community of scholars who are passionate about enhancing the learning experience of students, enhancing the research profile of the Faculty and enhancing the academic, social and economic impact of the Faculty’s teaching and research programmes.
 
The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Technology offers accredited engineering programmes in Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BEngTech), BEngTech Honours, Masters and PhD in Engineering. The candidate will be expected to teach, supervise students as will be required and to be involved with Research Groups in the Department.
 
Responsibilities:  
  • Lecturing, coordinating, assessing and tutoring large undergraduate (Departmental/service) modules in the industrial engineering disciplines of Manufacturing Systems, Production Engineering, Engineering Work Study, Operations Research, Quality Assurance, Logistics, Project Engineering, Software Design and Automation.
  • Research and publish in any field that articulates well with the existing research interests of the department.
  • Perform other administrative duties as determined by Head of Department e.g. Marketing departmental programmes, preparation for ECSA accreditation, prepare teaching files to mention a few.
  • Liaise with Industry so that the department can get research projects and funding for students.
  • Supervise postgraduate students (Masters). 

Minimum requirements

  • Masters degree  in Industrial Engineering or a closely related (NQF 9 or equivalent);
  • Previous lecturing / teaching experience at a tertiary institution;
  • Evidence of research outputs.

Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

  • Good communication skills (written and verbal with high level of proficiency in English). Teaching demonstration will be required
  • Good oral communication in at least one other language.
  • Good planning and organisational skills.
  • Computer literacy in typical Industrial Engineering software packages (Arena, QM for windows, Ciros, Anylogic etc.).

Recommendations

  • Registration with ECSA or statuary body (e.g. SAIIE).
  • Research specialization that articulates well with the existing interest of the department.
  • Evidence of research outputs and postgraduate supervision at Masters Level.
  • Registered for doctoral studies or ready to register the studies.
