Job description
- Responsible to teach, develop, manage and write study material for modules in Mercantile Law/Practical Business Law at undergraduate level, including the modules Financial Markets Regulation and Legal Applications in Engineering.
- Responsible to teach, develop, manage and write study material for modules in Mercantile Law on the postgraduate level, including the LLM module in Credit Law.
- Responsible to supervise postgraduate students.
- Required to be actively involved in research and publications, academic development, faculty and departmental administrative and other activities, and community service.
- Where not in possession of a doctorate in law, required to obtain such a degree within a reasonable time.
- Committed to self-development and demonstrate such development by excellence in teaching and learning, research (including being rated by the NRF when ready for such rating), community engagement and academic leadership.
- May be required to teach on any of the University's campuses.
Minimum requirements
- LLB and relevant LLM and/or LLD degree; and
- Experience as lecturer, including in the online environment and in respect of non-law students in the fields of finance and engineering; and
- CISI Global Financial Compliance certification; and
- Registered member of the Charted Institute for Securities and Investment; and
- Experience in teaching South African and international financial market legislation to prepare students for the RE5 examination and the CISI Diploma in Investment Compliance; and
- Experience in teaching engineering law in compliance with the requirements of the Engineering Council of South Africa; and
- Commitment to teach modules in Mercantile Law/Practical Business Law to undergraduate and postgraduate students, including first-year students, as well as service modules in various other faculties within the university.
- Excellent verbal and communication and writing skills in English.
- Ability to work as a member of a department and faculty.
- A relevant doctoral degree; and
- RE5 qualification in terms of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act.
