Job description

The Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment prides itself is a vibrant, dynamic and diverse engineering community of scholars who are passionate about enhancing the learning experience of students, enhancing the research profile of the
Faculty and enhancing the academic, social and economic impact of the Faculty’s teaching and research programmes.

The Postgraduate School of Engineering Management offers a research base doctoral programme as well as research and coursework master’s programmes. The School’s students are cross discipline engineering professionals. The Postgraduate School of Engineering Management has a vacant position of Associate Professor/Professor.

Responsibilities:

• Teaching and supervision of postgraduate students across multidisciplinary engineering management areas.
• High-quality research publications in accredited, peer reviewed journals.
• Developing a research programme contributing to the local economy and needs of the South African industry.
• Academic programme development and quality management of coursework master’s modules.
• Contribute through service to the School, the Faculty, the University and the broader community.

Minimum requirements

  • A relevant Doctoral degree in Engineering or Engineering Management.
  • Evidence of research excellence reflected in publications in high quality peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Successful supervision of postgraduate students and particularly doctoral students.
  • Registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a professional engineer or professional technologist.
  • In case the applicant is not registered, the applicant must undertake to do so within three (3) months of joining the school.
  • Experience in the professional engineering sector.

Recommendations:

  • Relevant experience in a Higher Education Institution
  • Rated researcher or strong commitment towards applying for rating with the National Research Foundation (NRF), South Africa.
  • Evidence of independent research leading to high-impact peer reviewed publications and the securing of external research funding.
  • Innovative supervision approaches to support postgraduates to complete within the excepted programme duration as well as ensuring quality research output.
