Job description

The School of Public Management, Governance and Public Policy (SPMGP) is a young, dynamic school in the College of Business and Economics (CBE) at UJ. The SPMGP strives to generate new knowledge about public management and has a focus on good governance and effective policy development; as well as how to improve public services delivery to businesses and communities in the creation of a developmental enabling environment.
 
The School is actively recruiting for a Lecturer to join its team of seasoned academics.
 
Responsibilities:  
 
The incumbent will be responsible for:
 
  • Lecturing in Public Management and Governance on the Soweto Campus (or any other campus of UJ as might be required).
  • Undertaking research and publish extensively in accredited academic journals, including in high-impact journals.
  • Participating in research activities of the School.
  • Participating in community engagement activities of the School.
  • Teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students in the School.
  • Developing and maintaining professional and industry partnerships.
  • Assisting in the overall management of the department, including by contributing to academic/research administration.

Minimum requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Public Management and Governance (on NQF 9 level) or an equivalent NQF 9 qualification.
  • Proven excellence in academic study record.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in both Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methodologies at postgraduate level.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office package.
  • Proven ability to think critically, analytically and laterally across disciplines and sectors (transdisciplinary).
  • Fluent in written and oral English communication.

  • A relevant doctoral degree (on NQF 10 level).
  • Proven excellence, teaching and publication experience as reflected in the academic CV.
  • Evidence of research outputs.
  • Experience in online teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Postgraduate supervision experience.
  • The ability to actively undertake research, which could be published in high quality academic journals.
