Job description

The Painting Foreman is responsible for supervising, coordinating, and directing painting crews and activities on job sites. They ensure that painting work is performed in accordance with specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements.  Planning and assigning of work and ensuring execution completion of job cards and any relevant tasks within turnaround time. 

Responsibilities:
 
  • Supervise and lead painting teams, assigning tasks and monitoring their progress.
  • Review project plans and specifications to determine the scope of work and materials required.
  • Ensure that all OHS regulations and guidelines are followed at all times.
  • Monitor the quality of paintwork, ensuring that it meets or exceeds industry standards.
  • Inspect completed work for accuracy, cleanliness, and durability.
  • Maintain inventory of painting materials and tools, ensuring that resources are adequately stocked.
  • Communicate with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to discuss progress and resolve any issues that arise.
  • Prepare and submit regular progress reports to management.
  • Ensure the proper disposal of hazardous materials, including paint thinners and other chemicals.
  • Ensure that all painting work complies with local regulations and industry standards.
  • Responsible for the implementation and review of painting process related codes, specifications and standards; And update BOM data to ensure the accuracy of data
  • Assist in the compilation of an asset register and maintain the register with reference to infrastructure, equipment, and tools.
  • Assist with the compilation of the Painting budget and the control of the expenditure.
  • Advise the management regarding the latest technology and legislation to contribute to the effective use of resources.
  • Mentoring and coaching of staff who require assistance to ensure effective skills development and a safe working environment.
  • Ensure that the staff is accredited to perform their tasks as required in legislation and for quality assurance purposes.
  • Assist with skill development and internal training of staff.
  • Monitor resource balancing and workload
  • Supervise staff effectively and ensure that tasks are executed within turnaround times and acceptable time frame
  • Action orientated, calm & composed, established technical knowledge, & team orientated disposition.
  • Ensure adherence to Occupational Health & Safety Act and Risk Assessments 
  • Ensure proper work control and management
  • Preparation of Weekly reports
  • Report and communicate with clients concerning progress on their requests.

Minimum requirements

  • NQF Level 6 Qualification (National Diploma or equivalent in Built environment)
  • Three to Five years’ appropriate experience in Construction and/or Facilities environment.
  • Three to Five years’ supervisory experience is essential
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of University rules, regulations, and policies
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Regulations
