The Department Finance and Investment Management is recruiting for a Marketing Manager to provide strategic leadership and oversight of the Department’s marketing, communications, digital presence, stakeholder engagement, and events portfolio. The incumbent will ensure alignment with the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) brand positioning, recruitment objectives, and institutional marketing strategy, while enhancing the visibility, reputation, and stakeholder networks of the Department of Finance and Investment Management (DFIM).
 
Responsibilities:
 
The responsibilities and duties of the successful incumbent include the following:
 
Strategic Marketing and Positioning
  • Develop and implement an integrated departmental marketing and communication strategy.
  • Lead and coordinate promotional campaigns to support student recruitment, programme growth and stakeholder engagement.
  • Conduct market intelligence and competitor analysis to inform positioning and strategic decision-making.
  • Develop and manage the annual marketing plan and calendar.
 

Digital Strategy and Brand Management

  • Provide strategic oversight of the Department’s digital platforms, including website and social media
  • Oversee content development, digital engagement, and targeted outreach initiatives.
  • Manage and expand departmental and stakeholder databases.
  • Monitor and evaluate campaign effectiveness.
 

Stakeholder Engagement and Communications

  • Lead internal and external stakeholder communications.
  • Build and sustain strategic relationships with industry partners, alumni, advisory boards, and institutional stakeholders.
  • Represent the Department in School and College marketing structures and relevant institutional forums.
  • Coordinate high-level communication outputs, including newsletters, promotional materials, and strategic announcements.
 

Events Management

  • Oversee departmental events, including academic conferences, industry engagements, open days, graduations, postgraduate inductions, advisory board meetings, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Oversee event planning, logistics, hospitality, and stakeholder liaison to ensure professional delivery and brand-aligned execution.
 

Administration

  • Ensure compliance with UJ branding, communication, and procurement policies.
  • Oversee the development and procurement of branded collateral and promotional materials.
  • Maintain accurate records of marketing assets and related documentation.

Minimum requirements

  • A Degree (NQF 7) in Marketing, Communication, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ relevant operational-level experience in marketing and communications.
  • Demonstrated experience in event planning and coordination.
  • Proven experience in digital marketing management and content development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Editing and design skills using Canva or similar platforms.
  • Basic photography and visual content development skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Relevant work experience within a university or higher education environment.
  • Knowledge of UJ marketing regulations, policies, and institutional procedures.
  • Knowledge of university administrative systems, structures, and governance processes.
  • Marketing and event management experience within a School or Faculty environment.
