Job Description:

The University of Johannesburg is actively recruiting for two Senior Lecturers in the Department of Accountancy. The Department of Accountancy is a nationally responsive leader in accounting education. The applicant to this post is expected to support our Accounting programmes by performing full academic duties that include teaching, postgraduate supervision, and research.
 
Responsibilities: 
 
The incumbent will be expected to:
 
  • Have strong technical knowledge of the fields of IFRS Accounting and/or auditing and governance knowledge.
  • Lecture Accounting and/or auditing at an undergraduate/postgraduate level.
  • Set tests, assignments, and examination papers.
  • Encourage students' personal development through consultation and tutorials.
  • Invigilate tests and examinations.
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings.
  • Contribute to general administration of the department and the college.
  • Attend and speak at conferences and seminars.
  • Write research proposals and conduct research in order to produce at least one accredited research output per year.
  • Be involved with professional, national, and international bodies/boards that are related to his/her discipline.
  • Participate in community engagement.
  • Be able to conduct and publish high-quality research.

Minimum requirements

  • A Chartered Accountant registered with SAICA -CA(SA) and an Honours qualification or Post Graduate Diploma (on NQF level 8) in Accounting or Financial Management (or relevant related field).
  • Sound knowledge of IFRS and or/ auditing and governance standards and practises.
  • Sufficient previous experience in teaching and research in Accounting and/or auditing at undergraduate/postgraduate University level.
  • Appropriate practical experience.

Recommendations:
 
  • A relevant masters or PhD degree (NQF 9/10 level).
  • An excellent record of academic performance in subject disciplines and professional examinations.
  • A strong publication track record in national and/or international accredited journals.
  • Experience in supervising postgraduate students, especially on master’s and PhD level.
