Job Purpose:

To administer and coordinate the University's collaboration environment, policies, and procedures to provide a secure, reliable, and highly available collaboration platform that supports institutional communication, information sharing, business continuity, and operational effectiveness.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Administering and maintaining the University's email and collaboration (MO365, Mimecast) environments to ensure availability, reliability, and business continuity.
  • Installation, administering, monitoring and maintaining Windows Servers (patching, maintenance and Windows version OS upgrades)
  • Supporting collaboration tools and technologies that enable users to communicate, share information, and participate in business processes effectively.
  • Managing and supporting Microsoft-based collaboration and messaging platforms, Active Directory services, and related infrastructure.
  • Implementing and enforcing IT policies, standards, and procedures relating to collaboration and messaging services.
  • Collaborating with disaster recovery and infrastructure teams to ensure business continuity and resilience of collaboration services.
  • Managing backup, recovery, and cybersecurity measures for systems (Veeam, Backup to Azure Cloud Data Protection Manager).
  • Troubleshooting and resolving complex system-related incidents and service requests.
  • Monitoring system health, performance, and capacity to ensure optimal service delivery (WSUS, Manage Engine, Solarwinds).
  • Providing technical support, guidance, and training to users where required.
  • Researching and evaluating new technologies, trends, and best practices to improve collaboration services.
  • Liaising with vendors, suppliers, and stakeholders regarding collaboration technologies and services.
  • Creating and maintaining accurate system, process, and technical documentation.

Minimum requirements

  • A Diploma/Certificate in Information Systems or Technology, or an equivalent technical qualification (NQF 6) or higher.
  • M365 Administration Certification (MS 365 certified: Fundamentals; Microsoft InTune, Teams Administrator, MS EntraID).
  • Microsoft Certified Hybrid Infrastructure (AZ 800 and AZ 801).
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ system administration experience.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years' system security administration experience.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ backup and recovery systems administration experience. (Veeam, Backup to Azure Cloud Data Protection Manager).
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in networking infrastructure, including DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP.
  • Developing and implementing IT policies and procedures (advantageous).
  • IT project participation and delivery (advantageous).
 

Recommendations:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange / Microsoft 365 messaging platforms.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory administration.
  • Microsoft systems administration.
  • Operating systems and networking concepts, including the OSI model.
  • Experience in Enterprise backup solutions and recovery processes.
  • Endpoint protection and anti-virus solutions.
  • Knowledge of and experience in IT governance, policies, standards, and procedures.
