Job description
- Discipline-specific teaching in Fashion Design and Fashion Production at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Contribute to the successful design, delivery, and development of blended curricula within the subject areas (i.e., Gerber Accumark/Lectra computer making and grading and discipline-specific theory)
- Drive industry, outreach, community engagement, and muti-disciplinary projects
- Coordination and contribution toward integrated teaching and learning
- Coordination of a program level and module(s)
- Coordination and management of department computer laboratory and software licenses
- Perform administrative and other ad hoc duties as required
- Contribute to accredited publications (textual and/or creative output) as per UJ requirements
Minimum requirements
- Master’s degree in Fashion Design and registered for a doctoral qualification
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching garment construction, manual and computer patterns, and grading in a tertiary environment
- Experience teaching at all levels in a tertiary environment
- Deep knowledge of garment construction, manual and computer patterns, and grading.
- Deep knowledge of discipline-specific theory (i.e., Fashion Entrepreneurship and Business)
- Commitment to contributing to the research focus areas and research output of the Department
- Evidence of a teaching and learning portfolio demonstrating innovative blended teaching methodologies that focus on decolonization and 4IR in the discipline
- Excellent English communication skills
- Excellent time management
- Good organizing, planning, and writing skills
- Strong interpersonal skills that acknowledge different cultural perspectives
- The ability to work collegially in a team context
- Good problem-solving skills
- The ability to adapt to changing circumstances
- A keenness to investigate and implement new teaching and learning approaches to align with changing circumstances
- Experience in postgraduate supervision
- Versatile skillset relating to technical design and production
- Contributions to community outreach and multi-disciplinary projects
