Laboratory Technician (P10) 3-Year Contract (Faculty of Health Sciences: Biomedical Technology) - (Re-advert)

Job description
- Facilitate and coordinate all undergraduate practicals within the Biomedical Sciences laboratories.
- Assist in the identification of non-technical duties such as procurement of laboratory equipment, furnishing and laboratory consumables, stock control and organisation of waste removal.
- Ensure that occupational health and safety risks are followed to minimise risk
- Manage the technical preparation of the laboratory according to the relevant procedures on a daily basis.
- Assist in the ordering of equipment and laboratory consumables
- Keep up to date the register of all equipment
- Maintain all equipment by servicing as an when required
- Ensure safe keeping of all equipment in the laboratories
- Control the use of laboratory consumables
- Act as Health & Safety officers (SHE reps, Fire fighters, & First Aid) to ensure compliance
- Maintain injury register by ensuring constant update
- Assist postgraduate students and researchers with their laboratory processes
- Assist with minor repairs of laboratory equipment
Minimum requirements
- National Diploma in Biomedical Technology (NQF level 6) compulsory
- Bachelor of Technology (NQF level 7) added advantage
- Technical working experience of 3-5years in a diagnostic laboratory
- HPCSA registration under Medical Technology board (Histopathology)
- Students’ laboratory training Experience an added advantage
- Excellent Interpersonal, Organisational, and planning skills.
- Proficiency in business writing and oral communication
- Ability to be assertive and paying attention to details
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information at all times, as well as maintaining reliability and integrity
- Ability to work independently as well as be a team player
- Excellent time management skills: the ability to prioritize workload and work under pressure (resilience) without supervision (adaptability)
- Proficiently in computer skills (Microsoft, Excel, internet, and emails)
- Experience in working in laboratories
- Understanding confidentiality and the handling of information
- Time Management and paying attention to details
