Job description

The outcome of such an assessment may have an impact upon possible employment with the University.
Job Description:
The role is responsible for managing and keeping clean the departmental mineral processing laboratories. The preparation and supervision of students' practicals. To provide support for research projects and activities in the Department of Metallurgy.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise students’ practicals.
- Prepare laboratories for practicals.
- Oversee health and safety in workshop and laboratory facilities.
- Manage the maintenance and keep the laboratory and equipment clean.
- Preparing laboratory consumables.
- Prepare experimental setups.
- Calibrate some teaching equipment.
Minimum requirements
- A Grade 12/Matric Certificate (NQF 4) or a Certificate in Extractive Metallurgy (or equivalent).
- Two (2) years’ relevant experience.
Recommendations:
- Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Extractive Metallurgy (or equivalent).
- Worked in mineral processing environment.
- A minimum of two (2) years industrial experience.
- SAIMM activeness and consideration to registering with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
- Experience working with students (laboratory/teaching).
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer literacy.
- Strong interpersonal relationship skills
- Analytical thinking.
- Team player.
